Objective LD A-Plan 40x/0.50 HMC (D=0.7-1.3) (WD=2.0mm when D=1mm)

Full Description

Special objective for Hoffman Modulation Contrast for the "Axiovert" 200. Special condenser for the objective: LD condenser 0.6 H/HMC for "Axiovert" 200 a=40mm with 4-position turret and 3 integrated slit apertures for HMC objectives A-Plan 10x, LD A-Plan 20x and 40x, polarizer and green filter, order number 000000-0430-043.

Glass thicknesses of less than 0.7mm require the following additional components for objective LD "A-Plan" 40x/0.50 HMC: Coverglass cap d=0.17-0.6, order number 422902-9901-000.

If the "Axiovert" 200 configuration does not include tubes with integrated Bertrand lens (000000-1005-828 or 000000-1005-829), the following item is required for the setting of Hoffman contrast: Auxiliary microscope d=30, order number 444830-9902-000.

The above objectives are original Zeiss objectives modified by Modulation Optics Inc., USA, in accordance with our quality guidelines. The condenser is a product from Modulation Optics Inc. which has been optimized for the "Axiovert" 200.

Hoffman Modulation Contrast is a technique for the contrasting of unlabeled specimens, developed by Dr. Hoffman, the founder of the Modulation Optics company. Its price and its contrasting quality is approximately positioned between "Varel" and DIC. Unlike DIC, however, it can also be used with Petri dishes made of plastic, since it is insensitive to birefringence. Accordingly, it is mainly used in examinations of living cells, particularly for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

LD A-Plan

The series with large working distance represent the entry level for inverted microscopy. They are corrected for cover glass and vessel bottom thickness up to 2 mm. This means optimal in the main applications of LD objectives, such as observation through thicker cell culture vessels etc. But also the use of thinner cover glasses for example in the range of 0.17 to 0.6 mm is easily possible with the simple use of a cover glass cap. The available contrast methods are ranging from brightfield, phase contrast to VAREL, Hoffman Contrast up to PlasDIC, the Zeiss exclusive polarization optical differential interference contrast, that makes applications like ICSI now possible even in plastic vessels with high resolution and brilliant contrast. Of course they are also suitable for fluorescence applications with excitation wavelengths within the visible spectrum.
